Project Sandbox is the working title for an interactive AR/mobile experience with a simple goal: to translate LEGO building into virtual space in an intuitive and unique way, utilising AR and fully digital spaces. Through UE5, players will be able to experience LEGO in the year 1979, with a timeless yet historically accurate palette of bricks, minifigures, and colors, and the liberty to build and play with whatever their hearts desire.
The fully virtual environment was created using Nvidia's attic USD scenery (https://developer.nvidia.com/usd), which I modified, rearranged, and post processed heavily. The goal was to create the kind of cozy place a kid would retreat to to build LEGO - or the kind of place an adult could rediscover their childhood at. I then translated the lighting, post processing, and particle setup into a mobile-friendly scene. In the final game, players will be able to swap seemlessly between the virtual space and AR, to better accommodate their comfort and mobility.
